Spooky Channel

Spooky Channel won two of his first four starts with two runner-up finishes before he made his stakes debut in the Turf Paradise Handicap in February 2019. He closed from off the pace to win that race by a head and two starts later added a win in the Wildcat Handicap in March at Turf Paradise. Om May 5, 2019, Spooky Channel extended his winning streak to five in a row with a neck win in the Hasta La Vista Handicap.

Spooky Channel’s winning streak came to a halt when he was unplaced in the Mystic Lake Mile Stakes in June at Canterbury Park and he closed his 4-year-old season with back-to-back unplaced finishes in graded stakes.

The English Channel gelding earned a breakthrough graded stakes win in his 5-year-old bow when he powered to victory in the Grade 3 W. L. McKnight Stakes on Jan. 25, 2020, at Gulfstream Park.

Spooky Channel raced five more times in 2020 and won an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs but was unplaced in four graded stakes. The gelding bounced back to win his second stakes race in his first start at age 6, taking the Grade 3 John B. Connally Turf Cup at Sam Houston by a neck on Jan. 31, 2021.

Over his next five starts in 2021, Spooky Channel finished second in an allowance optional claiming race at Churchill Downs in April and second by a half-length in a listed stakes at Ellis Park in August before reaching the winner’s circle again with a three-quarter-length score in the Remington Green Stakes at Remington Park on Sept. 26. He backed that up with a second graded stakes win for 2021, rallying from a stalking position to collar pacesetter and Mr. D. Stakes winner Two Emmys at the finish in the Grade 3, 1 ½-mile Sycamore Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 22.

Spooky Channel took almost the entire year of 2022 off, returning from a 14-month layoff on Dec. 26 with a victory in the $100,000 Dilberto Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds.

Spooky Channel returned for his 8-year-old season with his first outing of 2023 in the Grade 3 J.B. Connelly Stakes at Sam Houston on Jan. 28 going 1 1/2 miles on a soft turf course where he finished third by a length.

Spooky Channel got back in the winner's circle in his next start which came in the Grade 2 $300,000 Muniz Memorial Classic at Fair Grounds on March 25. Sent off as the 7-2 second choice on the tote board in a nine-horse field, Spooky Channel closed from near the rear of the field and got up to win by half a length in a time of 1:54.11 over a firm turf.

Spooky Kitten, by Kitten’s Joy, is the dam (mother) of Spooky Channel. She placed in all three of the Canadian Triple Tiara races in 2011.
