Starlust scored a 33.60-1 upset in the Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 2, 2024, at Del Mar, giving young jockey Rossa Ryan his first World Championships win and trainer Ralph Beckett his second. The 3-year-old British-bred Zoustar colt saved ground for most of the five-furlong turf dash, swept past tiring pacesetter and favorite Cogburn in midstretch, and outfinished Motorious by a neck for a signature victory.
Starlust scored a 33.60-1 upset in the Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 2, 2024, at Del Mar, giving young jockey Rossa Ryan his first World Championships win and trainer Ralph Beckett his second. The 3-year-old British-bred Zoustar colt saved ground for most of the five-furlong turf dash, swept past tiring pacesetter and favorite Cogburn in midstretch, and outfinished Motorious by a neck for a signature victory.
Prior to his Turf Sprint victory, Starlust won five of 17 starts including a Group 3 sprint on an all-weather track in England in 2023. He also first showed the ability to travel and run well with a third-place effort in the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Santa Anita Park.
Starlust is out of the Group 3-winning Invincible Spirit mare Beyond Desire.
