Surge Capacity

Surge Capacity, a 3-year-old Flintshire filly owned and bred by Klaravich Stables, won at first asking on June 10, 2023 at Monmouth Park, taking a 1 1/16-mile maiden race by 1 ½ lengths.

Trainer Chad Brown elevated the maiden winner to Grade 3 company in her next start, the one-mile Lake George Stakes July 21 at Saratoga, where she faced three stablemates with stakes experience.

Under Joel Rosario, Surge Capacity lived up to her name by coming from off the pace and through an opening along the rail to win the Lake George going away and improve to 2-for-2 in her career.

Surge Capacity made her next start in the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes in August at Saratoga, and kept on well to finish second behind Aspray. She then shipped to Keeneland for the Oct. 27 Grade 3 Bank of America Valley View Stakes and weaved through fillies in the stretch to get up and tally her third win in four starts and second graded stakes victory by three-quarters of a length.

For her next start, Brown shipped Surge Capacity to Del Mar to compete against older fillies and mares in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes on Dec. 3. Once again, she saved ground and had to overcome tight quarters when the field entered the homestretch of the one-mile turf event, but once clear the filly rallied strongly under Rosario to defeat stablemate Fluffy Socks by a head in an exciting finish.

The filly is out of stakes winner Strong Incentive, by Warrior’s Reward, and is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner and $650,000 earner Highly Motivated.
