Tarifa

Tarifa began her career as a 2-year-old in 2023 and won her career debut outing by six lengths in a seven-furlong maiden race at Keeneland on Oct. 25. She won her 3-year-old debut in a Fair Grounds allowance in her third career race going 1 mile and 70 yards on January 20, 2024.

Tarifa made her next start in the Grade 2 $300,000 Rachel Alexandra Stakes at Fair Grounds on Feb. 17, 2024, going 1 1/16 miles and was victorious by a clear 2 3/4-length margin. The Rachel Alexandra Stakes was a prep race on the road to the Kentucky Oaks.

Tarifa then ran in the next logical spot on the stakes calendar for 3-year-old fillies at Fair Grounds in the Grade 2 $400,000 Fair Grounds Oaks going 1 1/16 miles on the main track. Sent off as the 3-2 odds favorite in a field of six, Tarifa pressed the pace throughout and out-battled the leader to prevail by three-quarters of a length. The Fair Grounds Oaks was a key prep race for the 2024 Kentucky Oaks, and with her victory, Tarifa will advance to Churchill Downs as one of the likely Kentucky Oaks favorites.

Subsequently in the Kentucky Oaks, Tarifa was sent off at odds of 5.30-1 in a 14-horse field in the Longines Kentucky Oaks May 3 at Churchill Downs but finished a disappointing ninth.

Tarifa took three months off following the Kentucky Oaks and returned to action on Aug. 11 in the $173,000 Audubon Oaks at Ellis Park where she finished second. She then faced-off against Kentucky Oaks winner Thorpedo Anna in her next start in the Grade 1 Cotillion Stakes at Parx on Sept. 21 and finished third.

Tarifa got back into the winner's circle with a victory in the Grade 2 $250,000 Mother Goose Stakes going 1 1/8 miles at Belmont at the Big A on Oct. 26. Tarifa outbattled Gun Song in the stretch to win by ahead in a close three-way finish atop a five-horse field.

Tarifa is trained by Brad Cox and owned by Godolphin. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Bernardini out of the mare Kite Beach by Awesome Again.
