Wonder Gadot, a 2-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly owned by Gary Barber and trained by Mark Casse, broke her maiden in her career debut, taking an allowance race at Woodbine by four lengths in August 2017. She then jumped into stakes company and ran a game third in the Grade 3 Natalma Stakes on Sept. 17. Both of those races were contested on Woodbine’s turf course.
Wonder Gadot, a 2-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly owned by Gary Barber and trained by Mark Casse, broke her maiden in her career debut, taking an allowance race at Woodbine by four lengths in August 2017. She then jumped into stakes company and ran a game third in the Grade 3 Natalma Stakes on Sept. 17. Both of those races were contested on Woodbine’s turf course.
In her next start, Wonder Gadot switched to Woodbine’s synthetic main track for the 1 1/16-mile Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes on Oct. 7. Sent off as the 11-10 favorite, she overmatched three opponents in a six-length score under Patrick Husbands. After a troubled trip in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, in which Wonder Gadot was checked at the eighth-pole and finished sixth, she bounced back in a big way with a runaway win in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct on Dec. 2.
Wonder Gadot opened her 3-year-old season with a runner-up finish by a neck in the Silverbulletday Stakes at Fair Grounds before finishing third to highly regarded Monomoy Girl in the Grade 3 Rachel Alexandra Stakes, also at Fair Grounds.
After running third again in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks, beaten by only three-quarters of a length, Wonder Gadot shipped to Oaklawn Park, where she finished second by a nose to Sassy Sienna in the Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes in her final prep for the Longines Kentucky Oaks.
Her rivalry with Monomoy Girl was renewed in the Kentucky Oaks, but Wonder Gadot came up a half length short after a battle the length of the Churchill Downs stretch.
