Xigera

Xigera faced 2-year-olds at the competitive Saratoga meet in two races to begin her career, recording her maiden win in her second start in a 1 1/16-mile turf race on Aug. 28, 2022. 

Xigera was switched to the dirt and tested in class by trainer Philip Bauer versus graded stakes competition in her third outing in the Grade 1 $500,000 Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 7. In the Alcibiades, Xigera pressed the pace, was bothered in the stretch, and finished fourth but subsequently was placed third via disqualification. Xigera tried  the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies in her next start, where she finished 14th.

Xigera returned for her 3-year-old season in 2023 and earned stakes victories in the Tepin Stakes at Ellis Park and in the Seneca Overnight Stakes at Churchill Downs. Her breakthrough win came in the Grade 2 Mother Goose Stakes at Aqueduct on Oct. 28, when she topped a seven-horse field by a 3 1/2-length margin.

On Nov. 24 Xigera won her second straight graded stakes when she was victorious in the Grade 3 $400,000 Falls City Stakes going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs. Sent off as a heavy 0.15-1 favorite in a field of eight, Xigera stalked the pace within comfortable striking distance and drew off in the stretch to a big 6 1/2-length win.

Kentucky-bred Xigera, by Nyquist, is out of the stakes-winning Black Tie Affair mare Argent Affair, who also produced Forty Under, who won the Grade 3 Pilgrim Stakes and has earned $380,536 through Oct. 12, 2022.
