Named for his mother's rock 'n roll idol, Elvis Presley, Trujillo is a 2000 graduate of the Laffit Pincay Jr. Jockey School in his native Panama. Trujillo moved to the United States one year later and won his first career race at Hollywood Park.
Trujillo plied his trade in Southern California, Chicago and Florida, then joined Monmouth's jockey colony in 2003. Trujillo won his first career meet championship at Calder Race Course in 2007, and capped that year by guiding Maryfield to victory in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint. Injuries slowed his rise in 2008, but Trujillo has steadily regained his momentum.
For 2013, Trujillo piloted Itsmyluckyday to a victory in the Holy Bull Stakes and a runner up effort in the Florida Derby behind fellow Derby contender Orb. Trujillo will stay aboard Itsmyluckyday for the Kentucky Derby, carrying 50 points on the new system to the race.
