Horacio Karamanos was a leading jockey in his home country of Argentina for several years before moving to the U.S. shortly after the turn of the century. He began his racing career in Florida but soon settled into the Mid-Atlantic circuit and built a successful career at Laurel Park, Pimlico, and Colonial Downs, where he won six straight riding titles and took the Grade 2 Virginia Derby in 2007 aboard Red Giant.
