Channel Cat earned his first win in third start in September 2017. He finished fourth in the Grade 3 Dania Beach Stakes in February 2018 in stakes debut but bounced back with an allowance win in March at Gulfstream Park.
A four-race winless stretch followed that included a third in the Grade 3 Pennine Ridge Stakes and a fourth in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes. Cannel Cat’s breakthrough against stakes competition came in September 2018 when he won the Exacta Systems Dueling Grounds Derby at Kentucky Downs and the Bald Eagle Derby at Laurel Park.

Channel Cat ran third in Grade 1 United Nations Stakes in third start of 2019 before he led from start to finish to post a tenacious victory in the Grade 2 Bowling Green Stakes on July 27, 2019, at Saratoga. Channel Cat next ran third in the Grade 1 Sword Dancer Stakes Aug. 24 at Saratoga before coming up just short in a fourth-place finish to Arklow in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes.
In his 2021 debut, Channel Cat finished fifth in the Grade 3 W.L. McKnight Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 23. After a few months off, Channel Cat bounced back with a second-place finish in the Grade 2 Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland on Apr. 17. He picked up his first Grade 1 win in the Man o'War Stakes at Belmont Park on May 8, setting the pace and holding on to win by a nose over favored Gufo.
