Honor A. P., an $850,000 purchase at auction as a yearling, closed from 10^th to finish second in his August 2019 debut. He followed with a front-running 5 ¼-length romp Oct. 13 at Santa Anita Park.

The Honor Code colt was given time to mature after the win and returned March 7, 2020, for his 3-year-old bow in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes. Honor A. P. rallied from fourth to finish second to 6-5 favorite Authentic to bank 20 points toward qualifying for the 2020 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.

Honor A. P. returned from a three-month layoff due to the COVID-19 pandemic on June 6 in the Runhappy Santa Anita Derby and turned the tables on Authentic. He stalked the early pace under Hall of Fame rider Mike Smith, launched his winning bid on the final turn, and surged past Authentic in early stretch en route to breakthrough stakes win in a Grade 1 race. He rallied belatedly in his final prep for the 2020 Kentucky Derby and finished second to Thousand Words Aug. 1 at Del Mar in the Shared Belief Stakes.

Five weeks later, Honor A. P. made his fourth start of the year in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve and rallied belatedly to finish fourth after dropping back near the back of the pack in the early stages.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Hollywood Story, by Wild Rush, is the dam (mother) of Honor A. P.
