The Reds was sold at auction three times before he raced. In 2020, he was purchased for $130,000 at the OBS 2-year-olds in training sale by current owner Sean Flanagan.
After four unsuccessful tries in maiden races, The Reds broke through in his fifth start, at Aqueduct on Jan. 31. He rallied from last in the 1 1/8 mile race, drawing off in the end to win by 3 3/4 lengths. Kendrick Carmouche had the winning mount, for trainer John Kimmel.

The Reds won his first carer stakes race by disqualification, in the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico on Apr. 24. He crossed the wire second, losing a photo finish to Excellerator. However, he was placed first after that rival was disqualified for drifting out in the stretch and causing interference.
