The Mean Queen made her American debut on May 29, 2021, after starting her career in Europe in 2020. She won an allowance race at Great Meadow in Virginia by eight lengths. In her next start, the Margaret Currey Henley Hurdle Stakes at Percy Warner in Tennessee on June 26, The Mean Queen won her first stakes race, cruising to a 3 1/2-length score.

The Mean Queen was on her way to a surefire victory in the Jonathan Kiser Novice Stakes at Saratoga on July 28, when she ducked in in the stretch and unseated jockey Thomas Garner. Undeterred, she won the Grade 1 Jonathan Sheppard Handicap at Saratoga on Aug. 18, stamping her status as the one of the top steeplechasers in the country.
In her next start, The Mean Queen was the 7-5 second choice in the Grade 1 Lonesome Glory Handicap at Belmont Park on Sept. 19. The race loomed as a showdown between her and the other top steeplechaser in the country, Snap Decision. The Mean Queen got the better of her rival that day, winning by two lengths.
The two renewed their rivalry in the Grade 1 Grand National Hurdle Stakes at Far Hills on Oct. 16. After a long stretch battle, The Mean Queen edged past her rival and won her thrid consecutive Grade 1 race.
