Private Mission

Private Mission made her first start on Oct. 18, 2020, in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race at Santa Anita Park. As the favorite, she lived up to expectations, scoring by 1 3/4 lengths under Drayden Van Dyke. In her next start, the Desi Arnaz Stakes at Del Mar, she finished fourth as the 0.50-1 favorite. 

The Bob Baffert trainee made her 3-year-old debut in a first-level allowance optional claiming race at Santa Anita on June 12, 2021. She held on for a 3/4-length win. In her graded stakes debut, the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 21, she won going away after rating just off the lead.

Private Mission made her next start in the Grade 2 Zenyatta Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 3. Sent off as the 11-10 favorite, she enjoyed a perfect trip sitting just off of early pacesetter Samurai Charm, and moved past that foe effortlessly in the far turn. Jockey Flavien Prat kept her to task, and Private Mission was not threatened in the stretch, posting a 2 ¼ length-win over stablemate As Time Goes By and earning an automatic berth in the Nov. 6 Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

Private Mission won her first stakes race as a 4-year-old in the Grade 2 Santa Maria Stakes at Santa Anita on June 18, 2022. She rated off the early lead, took control in the stretch, and held on to win by 3/4 of a length for new trainer Sean McCarthy.

Owner Baoma Corp. paid $750,000 for Private Mission as a yearling at the 2019 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select auction. She is out of the stakes-winning Unbridled mare Private Gift and is a half-sister to stakes winner Secret Someone and to the dam of Grade 1 winner and millionaire Dunbar Road. Grade 1 winners Secret Status and Fair Maiden are other notable family members.
