Luck, a Kitten’s Joy mare owned by LNJ Foxwoods and trained by Richard Baltas, won her first race in North America on Aug. 7, 2021, at Del Mar by 2 ½ lengths. She had previously raced in France, winning twice in four starts.

After taking that 1 1/16-mile turf allowance at Del Mar, Baltas moved her up to the stakes ranks, and she immediately validated that decision by finishing a head behind Going to Vegas in the Oct. 2, Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes. She then finished second by a head once again in a graded stakes, this time losing to Neige Blanche in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes on Nov. 25 at Del Mar.
In her first start as a 5-year-old, Luck broke through with a rallying 3 ¼-length score in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes at Santa Anita on New Year’s Day.
