Mawj began her career win a win in her first career start as a 2-year-old with a win at Newmarket on May 14, 2022. She won her first stakes race back at Newmarket on July 8 in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes. As a 3-year-old, Mawj won the Group 1 English One Thousand Guineas Stakes at Newmarket on May 7, 2023.
Mawj began her career win a win in her first career start as a 2-year-old with a win at Newmarket on May 14, 2022. She won her first stakes race back at Newmarket on July 8 in the Group 2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes. As a 3-year-old, Mawj won the Group 1 English One Thousand Guineas Stakes at Newmarket on May 7, 2023.
Her next start was several months later at Keeneland where Mawj went to the lead early in the Grade 1 $600,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and never gave up her position to win the 1 1/8-mile Grade 1 race by a half-length in a time of 1:48.06 over a course rated good. Mawj paid $4.64 to win as the betting favorite in a nine-horse field. The QEII was Mawj's first start in the United States.
Mawj returned to make her next start against males in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile Nov. 4 at Santa Anita and was a step away from victory when nipped by a nose on the wire by Master of the Seas and forced to settle for second.
Mawj is trained by Saaed bin Suroor for Godolphin. She was bred in Ireland by the sire Exceed and Excel out of the mare Modern Ideals by New Approach. Mawj is a half-sister to Modern Games, who triumphed in the 2022 Breeders; Cup Mile at Keeneland en route to being named the U.S. champion turf male of 2022.
