Whitebeam (GB)

Whitebeam began his career as a 3-year-old with three races at Newbury Race Course in England and won two of those first three outings at distances of seven furlongs and one mile on the turf.  Whitebeam then went to Haydock on Aug. 6, 2022, and won for the third time in his first four career starts.

Whitebeam was sent to North America by owners Juddmonte for her 4-year-old campaign and joined the barn of trainer Chad Brown. She made her stateside debut in the $100,000 Plenty O Grace Stakes going a mile at Aqueduct on April 16, 2023, and finished second by a neck.

Whitebeam earned her first U.S. victory on the Preakness Day undercard at Pimlico on May 20 in the Grade 3 $100,000 Gallorette Stakes going 1 1/16 miles on a firm turf course. Sent off as the 4-5 favorite on the tote board in a seven-horse field, Whitebeam stalked the pace close up and then took over at will in the stretch to win by 2 1/2 lengths under jockey Irad Ortiz. The effort was good enough to make trainer Chad Brown comment after the race that Whitebeam would be Grade 1 stakes-bound in the near future.

That future Grade 1 stakes spot materialized for Whitebeam in her very next start, which came in the $500,000 Grade 1 Diana Stakes at Saratoga on July 15. Racing in a five-horse field that contained four horses trained by Chad Brown, Whitebeam outlasted heavy favorite In Italian to previal in the Diana by a nose in a 1 1/8-mile winning time of 1:48.33.

A year passed in-between wins for Whitebeam, but she picked an opportune time to get back into the winner's circle with a repeat win in the Grade 1 $500,000 Diana Stakes at Saratoga on July 13, 2024. Sent off as the 9-2 third choice on the tote board in a field of 10 fillies and mares in the 2024 edition of the Diana, Whitebeam took control of the pace from the start and was allowed to coast along on easy splits up front all the way around the course. She had plenty left when called upon in the stretch and finished well to hold off the stalkers to win by three-quarters of a length in a nearly identical time as in her 2023 Diana victory in 1:48.14 for the 1 1/8 miles on firm turf.

Whitebeam was bred in Great Britain by the sire Caravaggio out of the mare Sleep Walk by Oasis Dream.
