Domestic Product, a Practical Joke colt owned and bred by Klaravich Stables, finished fifth in his debut sprinting at Saratoga during summer 2023 but improved significantly when stretched out in distance for his second start. He won a two-turn, 1 1/8-mile maiden race by 4 ½ lengths on Oct. 27 at the Belmont at the Big A meet, and that start gave his connections the confidence to test him at the same distance in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes on Dec. 2, a qualifying points race for the 2024 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. He stalked the pace into the second turn of that race but had no punch when asked for a closing charge and finished seventh.

Trainer Chad Brown brought Domestic Product back to the Derby trail for his 3-year-old debut, shipping him south to Gulfstream Park for the 1 1/16-mile, Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes on Feb. 3. With Tyler Gaffalione riding, he had more stamina for a closing rally this time, cutting into pacesetter Hades’ lead in deep stretch but settling for second, 1 ½ lengths ahead of odds-on favorite Fierceness. Domestic Product earned 10 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby with the effort.

Domestic Product scored a breakthrough win on the road to the 2024 Kentucky Derby with a win in his next start in the Grade 3 $350,000 Tampa Bay Derby. Domestic Product won a four-way blanket finish by a neck to come out on top in the signature race of the Tampa Bay Downs season. The 1 1/16-mile Tampa Bay Derby was a qualifying points race for the Kentucky Derby, and with his victory, Domestic Product earned 50 points and an assured spot in the starting gate for the first Saturday in May. Subsequently in the Kentucky Derby, Domestic Product finished 13th.

Following the Kentucky Derby, Domestic Product rebounded positively, first with a second-place finish in the $150,000 Pegasus Stakes at Monmouth Park on June 15 and then with a win in the Grade 3 $200,000 Dwyer Stakes going one mile on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on July 6.

Domestic Product cut back in distance to seven furlongs and won the biggest race of his career so far when he scored a game victory in the $500,000 Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 24. Sent off as the 9-2 third choice on the tote board in an 11-horse field, Domestic Product raced near the back of the field early, gained ground and position throughout the race, hooked up in a stretch battle against Prince of Monaco, and prevailed in a game victory by a neck on the wire.

Kentucky-bred Domestic Product is out of the unraced Paynter mare Goods and Services and is from the family of Grade 3 winner and $600,000 earner Cherokee Queen.
