Subsanador (ARG)

Subsanador began his career in South America where he racked up seven wins from his first 12 career races. He was brought to North America for the first time as a 4-year-old late in 2023 and make his first U.S. start on opening day at Santa Anita, Dec. 23, and finished fourth in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes. From there he finished third in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap on March 3, 2024, and then was fourth in the Grade 2 Hollywood Gold Cup at Santa Anita on May 27.

Subsanador broke through for his first U.S. win when he shipped to Monmouth Park to win the Grade 3 $250,000 Philip H. Iselin Stakes on Aug. 17. He topped a six-horse field by 1 1/2 lengths as the 3-2 favorite with Mike Smith aboard while finishing 16 3/4 lengths clear of the third-place horse in a final time for the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.63 on a fast track but in rainy conditions.

Subsanador then returned to his southern California base for his next start in the Grade 1 $1 million California Crown Stakes on Sept. 28 and earned the best win of his career to date with a game neck victory atop a six-horse field in Santa Anita's premier prep race for the Breeders' Cup Classic. Sent off as the 6.10-1 third choice in the 1 1/8-mile California Crown, Subsanador stalked the pace before moving into contention on the turn. He then engaged in a three-way stretch battle in-between Newgate and National Treasure and outbattled that duo to the wire to get the victory. The California Crown was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "win and you're in" qualifier for the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic to be held Nov. 2 at Del Mar, and with his win Subsanador earned an expense-paid berth into the Classic.

Subsanador is trained by Richard Mandella. He was bred in Argentina by the sire Fortify out of the Argentinian mare Save the Date by Hurricane Cat.
