Chancer McPatrick

Chancer McPatrick began his career with a win in his career debut as a 2-year-old on July 27, 2024, at Saratoga with a one-length maiden win at 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track with a dramatic last-to-first effort to top a field of 10 juveniles.

Chancer McPatrick's next stop was the crown jewel of the Saratoga 2-year-old program in the Grade 1 $300,000 Hopeful Stakes going seven furlongs on closing day of the summer meet, Sept. 2, and in the Hopeful, Chancer McPatrick ran his record to 2-for-2 to start his career with another late-running victory. Sent off as the 4.40-1 second choice in the field of nine 2-year-olds in the Hopeful, Chancer McPatrick laid far off the pace near the rear of the field until making a wide rally into contention on the turn and into the top of the stretch, where he eventually wore down the leaders and held off the favorite to prevail by a half a length in a time of 1:23.44 with Flavien Prat aboard.

Chancer McPatrick returned a month later at Belmont at the Big A to once again win an important Grade 1 race for 2-year-olds with a victory in the Grade 1 $500,000 Champagne Stakes. The one-mile Champagne Stakes was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "win and you're in" prep race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, earning Chancer McPatrick an expense-paid trip to the Breeders' Cup at Del Mar for his next start. In the Champagne, Chancer McPatrick raced in last behind the nine-horse field in the early stages of the race before launching a wide sweeping move around the turn. He collared the leader at the top of the stretch and drew clear in the lane to a comfortable 2 3/4-length score as the 0.55-1 favorite.

Chancer McPatrick was sent off as the second betting choice in the $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Nov. 1 at Del Mar, but he finished sixth for the first loss of his career.

Chancer McPatrick took the next four months off and chose for his 3-year-old debut the Grade 3 $400,000 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby going 1 1/16 miles on March 8, 2025. Sent off as the 2.10-1 second choice in a seven-horse field, Chancer McPatrick stalked the pace up close and chased winner Owen Almighty around the track for second by 3 1/2 lengths. The Tampa Bay Derby was a points race on the road to the 2025 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve, and with his second-place finish he earned 25 qualifying points for a total of 35 so far. Trainer Chad Brown indicated he was pointing for the Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes for Chancer McPatrick's next start.

Chancer McPatrick is trained by Chad Brown. The McKinzie colt was was bred in Kentucky out of the winning Bernardini mare Bernadreamy. Grade 1 winner Dream Express is the grandam (maternal grandmother) of Chancer McPatrick.
