Sackatoga Stable

Best known as the ownership group comprised of a group of high school friends from New York who raced 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner Funny Cide, Sackatoga Stable made a triumphant return to the Grade 1 ranks when Tiz the Law won the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park in October 2019. Like Funny Cide, Tiz the Law is a New York-bred.

After closing out his 2-year-old season with a third-place finish in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, Tiz the Law regained his top form with a three-length win in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes in his first start as a 3-year-old. 

Tiz the Law followed that up with another impressive win in the Curlin Florida Derby, but then Sackatoga and trainer Barclay Tagg had to alter their planned race schedule when the Kentucky Derby was postponed to Sept. 5 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the Triple Crown series was finalized later in May, the Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets was made the first leg, running on June 20, and Sackatoga managing partner Jack Knowlton redirected Tiz the Law to the 1 1/8-mile Belmont. He won that race easily, giving his ownership group a Belmont Stakes win to go with their 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness victories earned by Funny Cide. Tiz the Law was again dominant in August at Saratoga, where he crushed the opposition in a 5 1/2-length runaway victory in the $1 million Runhappy Travers Stakes.
