Elizabeth L. Dobles

Elizabeth Dobles grew up immersed in horse racing as the daughter of Steve Dobles and Lori Burgess, who were exercise riders at Finger Lakes in Farmington, N.Y. Her father also spent time as a trainer.

A Canandaigua, N.Y. native, Dobles got start in in the horse-racing industry in high school when she spent weekends working for trainer Chris Englehart at Finger Lakes. The next year, she spent several months galloping horses for trainer Carlos Garcia at Laurel Park in Maryland and Colonial Downs in Virginia.

Dobles subsequently returned to New York and joined up with Jeremiah Englehart, Chris Englehart’s’ son, and worked for him primarily in New York while also traveling to Florida and New Orleans.

“When I was younger, I wanted to be a jockey. I had jockey fever and it was my goal,” Dobles said in a 2019 Gulfstream Park press release.

“I got the weight down but it wasn't healthy. I knew I couldn't struggle and keep my strength to ride horses, so I just gave up that idea and started working for Jeremiah galloping horses and I got to be his assistant.”

Dobles worked with with Englehart for six years before going out on her own in 2016. She earned her first stakes win with Vow to Recover in November 2018 and won multiple stakes with both Vow to Recover and Royal Squeeze. She earned her first career graded stakes win when War Story won the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes Dec. 14, 2019, at Gulfstream Park.
