Chicago native Larry Rivelli grew up around horse racing, hanging around the barn while both his grandfather Pete DiVito and his uncle James DiVito conditioned horses on the Illinois circuit. Rivelli got his own trainer’s license in 1999 and over the next 20 years became a mainstay at Arlington Park and Hawthorne Race Course, earning his first graded stakes win in 2008 when Strait of Mewsina took the Hawthorne Derby.

Rivelli led all trainers at Arlington Park by wins during an eight-year stretch, from 2014 until the track’s final meet in 2021. His other top horses include Cocked and Loaded, The Tabulator, and Jean Elizabeth.
In 2023, Rivelli trained leading Kentucky Derby contender Two Phil’s, winner of the Jeff Ruby Steaks.
