A former assistant to legendary New York trainer Woody Stephens, Gleaves won the Haskell Invitational, Travers Stakes, and Super Derby with Wise Times in 1986. He took a step back to juggle parenthood with his professional career as a trainer, but Gleaves has enjoyed success in recent years with Mambo Meister and Csaba. In 2020, he won the Grade 3 Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park with Second of July.
