Armagnac broke his maiden in his second career start, a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight race at Santa Anita Park on Jan. 21, 2022. He set the early pace and drew off to win by 2 1/4 lengths under John Velazquez.
Prior to the Grade 1 Runhappy Santa Anita Derby at Santa Anita Park on Apr. 9, Armagnac was transferred from the barn of Bob Baffert to that of Tim Yakteen. He finished fourth and earned ten points on the road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
