Cyclone Mischief

Cyclone Mischief won his maiden in his second career outing as a 2-year-old in a 1 1/16-mile dirt race at Keeneland on Oct. 19, 2023, topping a 10-horse field that day by 5 1/4 lengths. The win was enough to launch him into a start in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 26, but after fighting for the lead much of the race, Cyclone Mischief faded to finish seventh.

In his next start, Cyclone Mischief opened his 3-year season on a high note with a 5 3/4-length victory in an allowance optional claiming race going one mile at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 8, 2023. That win again spurred another stakes attempt for Cyclone Mischief, this time in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes on Feb. 4 at Gulfstream Park. Just as in his previous stakes foray, Cyclone Mischief finished seventh.

Cyclone Mischief regrouped and made his following start in the Grade 2 $400,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park on March 4. Cyclone Mischief finished third behind runaway winner Forte. For the show finish, Cyclone Mischief earned his first 15 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby. Cyclone Mischief returned to face Forte again in his next outing in the Grade 1 $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on April 1, and once again finished third. He earned another 30 Kentucky Derby qualifying points, giving him 45 total, which is likely to secure him a berth in the starting gate for the run for the roses on the first Saturday in May.

Cyclone Mischief is trained by Dale Romans. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Into Mischief out of the mare Areyoucominghere by Bernardini.
