Albaugh Family Stables LLC and Castleton Lyons

Albaugh Family Stable is the Des Moines, Iowa-based racing operation of Jason Loutsch and Dennis Albaugh, who mortgaged his home to start his own pesticide company Albaugh Inc.

Today Albaugh is a multibillion-dollar international company. Albaugh owns 100% of the company and has a fortune estimated at $1.5-billion.

Albaugh Family Stables was represented in the 2016 Kentucky Derby with Brody’s Cause and in the 2017 Derby with J Boys Echo.

In 2023, the Albaugh family returned to the Triple Crown trail with Angel of Empire and. Cyclone Mischief. The former won the Risen Star Stakes and Arkansas Derby, while Cyclone Mischief placed in both the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Florida Derby.

Castleton Lyons property has a rich histoy dating to 1793. Dr Tony Ryan purchased the farm from the Van Lennep Trust in 2001 and the farm was returned to its Thoroughbred roots. An Irish businessman, Ryan made his fortune in the aviation industry via Ryanair, the airline that revolutionized low cost travel for Europeans. In February 2004, the breeding shed at Castleton – now renamed Castleton Lyons in recognition of its connection with Lyons Demense, Dr Ryan’s Irish Estate - opened its doors. 

Following the death of Tony Ryan in 2007, his son Shane took over the operation of Castleton Lyons and serves as president.
