Delight

Delight, a daughter of freshman sire Mendelssohn, finished third in her first two starts at Keeneland and Saratoga during 2022 before breaking her maiden Aug. 27 at Delaware Park, where she won going away by 2 ¼ lengths after stalking the pace.

She then tried stakes company back at Keeneland and went off as the post-time 3.84-1 favorite in a competitive running of the Grade 2 JPMorgan Chase Jessamine Stakes. With Luis Saez back in the irons after missing her Delaware Park start, Delight assumed the lead early and responded with a burst of speed in early stretch when given her cue, shooting away from a full field to win her second start in a row by five lengths and earn a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf back at Keeneland Nov. 4 via the “Win and You’re In” Challenge Series.

Delight is trained by Jonathan Thomas, who purchased her for owner George Strawbridge for $400,000 at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. March 2-year-olds in training auction. She is out of the unraced Medaglia d’Oro mare Honey Trap, a half-sister to two stakes winners.
