Jaxon Traveler

Jaxon Traveler made his debut in a maiden special weight race at Pimlico on Sept. 24, 2020. He crushed the field by ten lengths in a gate-to-wire effort. He followed that win up with a score in a first-level allowance race at Laurel Park on Oct. 23, and a win in the Maryland Juvenile Futurity at Laurel on Dec. 5.

Jaxon Traveler won his first stakes race as a 3-year-old at Oaklawn Park on Apr. 24, 2021. He won by 2 3/4 lengths in a front-running score, for trainer Steve Asmussen and jockey Francisco Arrieta. He earned another stakes win against Maryland-breds in the Star de Nasrka Stakes at Pimlico on Aug. 21, covering six furlongs in 1:10.21. He closed out a 3-year-old season in which he earned $324,948 with a runner-up finish in the Gravesend Stakes in December at Aqueduct.

Jaxon Traveler was unplaced in his 4-year-old bow in January 2022 at Laurel Park but bounced back with a second-place finish in the Not For Love Stakes in March before another runner-up finish in an April allowance race at Aqueduct.

Returning to Pimlico, where he owned a record of two wins and a second in three starts, proved a recipe for success for Jaxon Traveler May 21 on the Preakness Stakes undercard. The 4-year-old set the pace in the Grade 3 Maryland Sprint Stakes, battled back gamely when headed in the stretch by Threes Over Deuces, and edged away late to a clear victory to halt a six-race winless stretch. Jaxon Traveler finished second once and third one in five subsequent starts in 2022.

Jaxon Traveler was unplaced in his first two races of 2023, one on turf and one on dirt, but showed improvement with a third-place finish in an allowance race on the dirt at Remington Park in October. He followed with a 5 ½-length romp in the Zia Park Sprint Stakes in his final race as a 5-year-old.

Jaxon Traveler made his first start on an “off” track in his 6-year-old bow, finishing a well-beaten fifth on a sloppy track in the Kin Cotton Stakes at Oaklawn Park in February 2024. He bounced back smartly with a front-running, three-length win in the Bill Thomas Memorial Stakes two weeks later at Sunland Park. Jaxon Traveler returned to graded stakes. Competition for the first time since November 2022 in the Grade 3 Whitmore Stakes, March 16 at Oaklawn Park, where he surged past Ryvit near the top of the stretch and then fought gamely to hold off fast-closing Tejano Twist by a nose in 1:10.04 for six furlongs. The Whitmore was Jaxon Traveler’s first graded stakes win since the 2022 Preakness undercard when he won the Maryland Sprint Stakes.

Jaxon Traveler was purchased for $140,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sale in 2020.
