Jesus’ Team needed five starts to earn his first career win, taking a maiden claiming race by 3 ¾ lengths in March 2020 at Gulfstream Park. He followed with a 6 ¾-length romp in a claiming race at Gulfstream in May. After a runner-up finish against allowance competition, the Tapiture colt made his stakes debut in the Grade 1 TVG.com Haskell Invitational Stakes and finished fourth. The next month he finished second in the TVG.com Pegasus Stakes to earn eight Kentucky Derby qualifying points.

Jesus’ Team was under consideration for the Kentucky Derby, but his connections instead opted to run hin in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes on Sept. 5, the same day as the Derby, and he finished third at 4.90-1 odds. He made his nest start in the Preakness Stakes, the final jewel of the reconfigured 2020 Triple Crown, and rallied to finish third at 40.90-1 odds.
Making his next start in the Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile Nov. 7 at Keeneland, Jesus’ Team rallied to finish second in the $1 million race. He followed that up with a win in the Claiming Crown Jewel Dec. 5 at Gulfstream, and a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Pegasus World Cup Invitational on Jan. 23.
