King Guillermo, a bay colt by Uncle Mo owned by five-time MLB All-Star Victor Martinez, was unplaced on the main track in his September 2019 debut. He switched to the turn and won a maiden race at Gulfstream Park West by 6 ¼ lengths before finishing third behind Sole Volante in the Pulpit Stakes Nov. 30 at Gulfstream Park.

In his 3-year-old bow, King Guillermo returned to dirt and turned the tables on Sam F. Davis Stakes winner Sole Volante with a powerhouse 4 ¾-ength victory at 49.20-1 odds in the Grade 2 Lambholm South Tampa Bay Derby. The win earned him 50 points toward qualifying for the 2020 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
King Guillermo followed with a determined runner-up finish in the second division of the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby May 2 at Oaklawn Park.
