Mixto

Mixto began his racing career as a 2-year-old in 2022 but did not successfully clear his maiden hurdle until his sixth lifetime start with a head victory in a one-mile race at Del Mar on Nov. 17, 2023. Mixto then became a fixture in California stakes races for older horses during his 4-year-old season in 2024, with some of his best efforts coming in a third-place finish in the Grade 2 San Pasqual at Santa Anita, a third-place finish in the Grade 3 Californian Stakes at Santa Anita, and in a second-place finish in the $150,000 Pleasanton Mile.

Mixto's breakout win finally came in perhaps the biggest spot at all when he scored an upset to win the Grade 1 $1 million FanDuel Racing Pacific Classic going 1 1/4 miles at Del Mar on Aug. 31. Mixto stalked the pace close-up throughout and issued a successful challenge for the lead in deep stretch and won the race by a half a length at the finish to top an eight-horse field at odds of 22.20-1. The Pacific Classic was a course and distance prep race for the Longines Breeders' Cup Classic to be held on Nov. 2 at Del Mar and was a Breeders' Cup Challenge Series "win and you're in" qualifying race. With his win, Mixto assured himself a spot in the starting gate for the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Mixto is trained by Doug O'Neill. He was bred in Kentucky by the sire Good Magic out of the mare Musical Mystery by Concerto.
