Mrs. Astor, a Lookin At Lucky filly homebred by George Strawbridge, finished fifth and a close third in her first two career starts before winning a 1 1/16-mile turf race at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 12, 2023, to begin her 3-year-old season. The filly stayed on the grass and endured a nine-race losing streak through summer 2024, finishing second four times and third twice during that span (including in a Grade 3 stakes) while racing all around the country for trainer Jonathan Thomas.
Mrs. Astor, a Lookin At Lucky filly homebred by George Strawbridge, finished fifth and a close third in her first two career starts before winning a 1 1/16-mile turf race at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 12, 2023, to begin her 3-year-old season. The filly stayed on the grass and endured a nine-race losing streak through summer 2024, finishing second four times and third twice during that span (including in a Grade 3 stakes) while racing all around the country for trainer Jonathan Thomas.
During the 2024 Colonial Downs meet, Mrs. Astor broke through with a neck win in an allowance optional claiming race, and she then ran a solid fourth at 52.55-1 odds in the Grade 3 Rood & Riddle Dowager Stakes Oct. 20 at Keeneland.
She was then shipped to California for another stakes try in the Grade 3 Red Carpet Stakes at Del Mar. Mrs. Astor ran a career-best race in the 1 3/8-mile event, scoring by a length over Forever After All.
Mrs. Astor remained in California and tried for a second consecutive graded stakes score in the Grade 3 Robert J. Frankel Stakes Dec. 27 at Santa Anita Park. With Frankie Dettori aboard, she rallied strongly in the stretch to win the 1 1/8-mile turf race by a nose over Mahina.
Mrs. Astor is out of the Creative Cause mare Causal, and is a close relative to Canadian Horse of the Year Biofuel and to Canadian champion filly Tu Endie Wei.
