A $1,100,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Mid-Atlantic sale in 2020, Shaaz came into his debut at Santa Anita Park on Dec. 26, 2021 with high expectations. After an awkward break, he rated near the back of the pack early, then moved four-wide on the turn and came after the leaders. He got up in the last few strides to win by a half-length as the 1-2 favorite.
