Soup and Sandwich debuted impressively at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28, 2021. He soundly defeated a field of Florida-bred maidens by 7 ¼ lengths, covering 6 ½ furlongs in a sharp 1:16.82 under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr.
In his next start, Soup and Sandwich was shipped across his home state, to Tampa Bay Downs, for a first-level allowance optional claiming race at a mile and forty yards. He was the overwhelming 1-5 favorite in a field of three, and cruised home with minimal urging by 2 ¾ lengths. Antonio Gallardo had the winning mount.

He set the early pace on the outside, and held on to finish behind Known Agenda. For that performance, Soup and Sandwich earned 40 points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
