Trainer Jonathan Thomas worked as an assistant to Christophe Clement and more recently was a top assistant to seven-time Eclipse Award winner Todd Pletcher. In 2017, he picked up his first graded stakes wins with promising 2-year-old Catholic Boy.
That talented, versatile runner took Thomas to the pinnacle of the sport during summer 2018 after being taken off of the Triple Crown trail. Catholic Boy won both the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational on turf in July and then the Grade 1 Runhappy Travers Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets in late August on dirt to become a viable Breeders’ Cup contender on two surfaces.
Thomas is a Virginia native and a former jockey.
