about this race

Race Info
History

The Bourbon Stakes is a top-level race for 2-year-old turf specialists contested over 1 1/16 miles at Keeneland Race Course. The winner of the race also secures a slot in the starting gate of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf.

Top horses boasting a win in the Bourbon Stakes include Twilight Meteor, Interactif and champion Gio Ponti. The speed record of 1:42.42 was set by Gateman in his 1999 victory, while Stage Call tallied a record-setting 11 1/4-length win in 2001. Jockeys Craig Perret and Pat Day each have three Bourbon Stakes wins to their credit. Trainer Todd Pletcher has a trio of victories in the race while Klaravich Stables and W.H. Lawrence have won the race twice in partnership.
