Saratoga Derby S. Presented by Qatar Racing

The first edition of the Saratoga Derby Invitational was held Aug. 4, 2019, as the New York Racing Association strived to put together a compelling series of races for turf 3-year-olds, both male and female, at Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course. The Saratoga Derby is part of the Turf Trinity series that is contested at distances matching the dirt Triple Crown, with each leg worth $1 million in purse money.

At 1 3/16 miles, the Saratoga Derby is the middle jewel of the series and the only race in the series not contested at Belmont Park. A THread of Blue won the inaugural race and Domestic Spending won the Saratoga Derby in 2020.
