James McIngvale

Although born in the shadow of Mississippi State University, McIngvale is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin. He opened Gallery Furniture in 1981 in his adopted home of Houston after several years as a successful furniture salesman in the Dallas area.

Runhappy was McIngvale's third starter in the Breeders' Cup and delivered for his owner with a visually impressive victory in the TwinSpires.com Breeders’ Cup Sprint after winning Keeneland’s Grade 3 Phoenix Stakes on a sloppy track.

Prior to the Phoenix, Runhappy captured the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga and he closed his 3-year-old season with a victory in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes. He was named champion sprinter of 2015.

McIngvale, known as “Mattress Mack” because of his furniture stores and who’s had something of a spotty racing career lately, was quoted as saying of Runhappy, “This horse is special to a lot of people. He’s the kind of horse who makes you want to get up in the morning instead of sleeping in on one of my mattresses.”
