First run in 1979, the six furlong True North Handicap is open to all horses four and older at Belmont Park. It has been run at six furlongs since the first running with champion Groovy running the fastest edition of the race in 1987. Three jockeys are tied at the top of the all-time winners list with three each while both Todd Pletcher and Bill Mott have won three each as well. Traditionally run around Belmont Stakes weekend, the race has been won by notable horses such as Phone Trick (1986), Speightstown (2004), Benny the Bull (2008), Trappe Shot (2011), Caixa Electronica (2012) and Rock Fall (2015).
