The first points race on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks, the Pocahontas is names after an important mare who helped shape the Thoroughbred breed. Run at 1 1/16 miles on dirt at Churchill Downs, 2014 Kentucky Oaks win won this race as a 2-year-old and 2001 Breeders' Cup Distaff winner Unbridled Elaine won it in 2000. Other major winners include Weekend Surprise (the dam of Belmont Stakes winner and sire A.P. Indy and Preakness winner Summer Squall), Crowned, Stellar Jayne, Pure Clan and Sign. This race is also a "Win and You're In" race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
