Some of the world’s best female grass horses travel to the Breeders’ Cup to compete in this turf race, which is held at 1 ¼ miles or 1 3/8 miles depending on the layout of the host track. The inaugural Filly and Mare Turf was held in 1999 and marked the first expansion of the Breeders’ Cup program.
