The Remsen Stakes was first run in 1904 and remains a fall mainstay for some of the top 2-year-olds in the country. Named for Col. Joremus Remson, a Long Island hero of the American Revolution, the race is one of the last major 2-year-old events of the year and helps determine the early favorite for the Kentucky Derby. The top four finishers earn points toward a spot in the Derby starting gate on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

Carry Back, Key to the Mint, Pleasant Colony, Go fo Gin, Thunder Gulch, Bluegrass Cat and Court Vision are among the notable horses to triumph in the race. Jockey Eddie Maple won the race a record four times - in 1972, 1977, 1981 and 1989.
