A race won by stars such as Affirmed, Swale, Gulch, Forty Niner, Holy Bull, and Lemon Drop Kid to name just a few, the Futurity Stakes is now contested at six furlongs on the main track at Belmont Park and serves as a prep race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

The Futurity Stakes was run on turf for the first time in 2018, the same year it was added to the Breeders' Cup Challenge Series as a "Win and You're In" qualifier for the Juvenile Turf Sprint.
