History

Run at Churchill Downs since 1989 and named after the horse who won the first Kentucky Derby in 1875, the Aristides is run at six furlongs (three-quarters of a mile) on the dirt for horses three and older. Shane Sellers leads all jockeys with three wins in the race while Paul McGee, D. Wayne Lukas and Steve Asmussen lead all trainers with three wins each. Bet On Sunshine is the only horse to win the race twice (2000-2001) with horses such as Oritentate, Champali, Kelly’s Landing and Lost in the Fog joining him on the winner’s list.
