First run in 1936, the Ashland Stakes is a Kentucky Oaks prep race at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Ky. named after Henry Clay’s breeding farm. The race was originally open to fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up when it was run from 1936 and 1937. The race was canceled the two following years but when returning in 1940 as a race only open to 3-year-old fillies and is currently run at 1 1/16 miles. Woody Stephens has the most wins of any trainer with four and four jockeys are tied for the most wins by a jockey with three.
